Now that Andy Rooney retired
I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. It seems like every time he
would do the end of 60 min. he would say something that I was thinking all
along.
So here's what I'm thinking.
The subject: Bullying
It is so wrong on so many
levels and parental figures and teachers at schools are not handling it
correctly at all. But my main concern is sure something needs to be done about
bullying but in the meantime why not teach the kids that are being bullied how
to handle it if it happens. What's happening is that kids take it so seriously
and then kill themselves over it. I never thought once in my younger life that
anyone that said anything about me or to me was worth killing myself over. I
was a freak and I knew it because I was a tall chick. I was as tall as the
first grade teacher at seven years old. I started realizing it when I was in
the first grade and then later on I was called "horse". Did I kill
myself over that? No. I said to myself the people that are calling me horse are
jealous because they're not as tall as me and they're dumb. Maybe I had more
self-esteem than kids these days but I think that is part of raising a child –
teaching them how to grow up and how to handle bad things that happen in the
process of growing up. Some kids are jerks that will always be the case so in
the process of raising a child the parents need to prepare their kids for that.
Kids need to learn how to handle other kids correctly. The same thing goes with
adulthood. If they are properly prepared as kids, then they'll be better able
to deal with other people when they're adults. Yes. I don't have kids. So one
might say who am I to talk. Do you know who the Super Nanny is on TV? She
doesn't have any kids either but she has a good knack at seeing things from the
outside of being a parent and her show is very successful. There is something
to that.
So the bottom line is
bullying does need to stop but kids also need to learn how to deal with it. They
shouldn't be killing themselves over it. That's not dealing with it. That's
giving into it and basically saying the bullies are right. They need to learn
how to tell themselves that what these other kids are saying is not true, let
it roll off their backs, take it to the authorities and their own parents and
not give in to it. They shouldn't be giving the credit to bullies at all
because feeling bad over something a bully says is giving the bully power.
That's my rant for the
moment.
Subject: Politicians & Honesty
Have you ever heard or seen a
politician tell the truth? For example, have they ever followed through with
the promises they made during their campaign if they actually got elected?
I watch the occasional debate
and it just seems like all politicians tell the audience what they want to hear
just to get elected. They don't give a crap about what they said and have no
problem with going back on their word. I think the main question should be for
any politician is "what's in it for you"? No one that I know of that
has been dubbed a politician has done anything for anyone without a kickback. I
would like to know if there is one honest politician out there – one that has
followed through with every statement that they made in the campaign prior to
being elected.
My summation is politicians
will lie to get the status that they want. If anyone needs to revolt, rebel,
demonstrate, riot, or protest, one should be done against lying politicians or
at this point all politicians. Wouldn't our country be better off if we had
honest, reliable, and non-shady politicians? There should be nothing in it for
politicians (no pay) because they only do elections because there is something
in it for them like fame or money and benefits. Maybe something positive would
actually get done. At this point I would say Obama followed through with his
promise of "change". He didn't say it would be good change and things
did in fact change for the worse. He found a way to find a word that people
mainly think is a positive word when it comes to politicians just to get elected.
I also need to add that politicians bashing on their opponent in any way should
be banned. It is a very poor example for kids or anyone. It is stupid,
immature, and the only thing it does is make someone feel bad. I wonder if
anyone ever got elected just because they bashed on someone else. I personally
think it is assault.
